Why should I donate to the SPLS Foundation?

These funds assist students from low-income families in obtaining a Christian education.

Is there a donation limit, and when will students receive it?

Yes, the limit is $500,000 per year for individuals or businesses with a Kansas state tax liability. All funds must be distributed within 36 months.

Are these funds guaranteed to go to the students tuition?

The SPLS Foundation is recognized by the Kansas Department of Revenue as a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO). We adhere to their rules and are audited annually by a CPA. 90% of our funds are allocated to scholarships.

When is the scholarship application deadline?

The application deadline typically falls in early March. Check our website for specific dates for each scholarship cycle.

Can international students apply for scholarships through the SPL School Foundation?

Currently, St. Paul Lutheran School Foundation scholarships are available only to students who are residents of the Kansas.

Is there a maximum amount a student can receive?

Scholarships cannot exceed $8,000 per student per year.

Can I receive cash back on my Kansas income Tax?

No, but the tax credit will carry forward until fully used.
Please note: The SPL School Foundation and its board cannot give tax advice.  Contact your professional tax advisor before contributing.

When is the best time to donate?

The sooner the better. Receiving funds early in the year allows students to use them for the entire school year. The amount of tax credits has an annual cap by law.  Once that cap is reached, additional donations will not receive the tax credits.  Therefore, don’t wait until late in the year to donate and miss your 75% tax credit.

Can I designate my donation to go to a particular student?

No.  The awarding of scholarships is made by the Board of Directors or their designated committee.
